Pathways To IndependencePathways to Independence is a new program designed to help older teens and young adults prepare for life on their own after leaving home, a shelter or the detention center. They are taught the skills needed to take on the challenges of adulthood. The program is open to all Morris County youth aged 16 to 21, particularly those involved in, or who are “aging out” of the court system, youth shelter or other at-risk situations.

Cost per session: Grant Funded NJPN has partnered with The Partnership for a Drug Free New Jersey as well as the Drug Enforcement Administration Newark Division to launch a new campaign focused on the dangers and problems associated with prescription and over-the-counter drug abuse. Jason’s Message is named after NCADD of Middlesex County’s coalition coordinator, Linda Surks’s son. Jason was a pre-pharmacy major, worked part time in a pharmacy and saw medications being handed out everyday. He believed the drugs were safe and visited websites that told him they were safe. Unfortunately, in December 2003, Jason passed away after overdosing on Xanax, which he had been using recreationally. NJPN has developed a model curriculum to educate students, parents and professionals to raise awareness about this growing trend. Number of sessions:

Innervisions
2 is a
fifth generation curriculum built on 20 years of research and
development. Designed
specifically
for at- risk adolescents, KIV2
is
grounded in the belief that an individual's
thinking and beliefs that lead to
violence, substance abuse, school failure, and other anti-social
behaviors can
be changed.
The cognitive restructuring skills in KIV2 address the
high-risk factors that predispose youth and adults to cycles of
failure. KIV2
is easily integrated as an education, prevention, intervention, and
aftercare program. The curriculum is designed to be sequential over
sixteen sessions, uses repetition of concepts in a variety of
interactive processes to reach all learning styles, and is applied to
daily living issues. Keys to Innervisions 2 has been researched and cited as a model curriculum. In 2001, The New Jersey Safe and Drug-Free Schools, Violence Prevention Institute, evaluated and cited KIV as a model program. Three research studies have shown Keys to Innervisions to be a highly effective intervention with probation and alternative school clients. Target Audience: 6th thru 12 Grade
